The Glenfield Middle School Show
Amy had attended my talk / Q & A at the library show in which I explained what started out as
The Montclair Project.
For the average person,
their only experience with great painting is to go to a museum where they might see 1000 paintings in an hour or two.
Great painting does not give up hardly anything at a glance.
One has live with it.
See it in different moods,
different times of the day,
different weather.
Great painting is a living thing,
and the more time you spend with it, the more it will talk to you.
My Montclair Project is all about finding local public places to hang my paintings for a long period of time so that area residents can have a natural experience with it.
You don’t have to go to school to understand great painting.
It’s more like understanding great cooking. All it takes is interest and exposure.
This show of Margaret’s Crosswalks (see projects) and the first 10 of the Universe Series (see above) will hang until summer break.
Prior to hanging I had the great fortune to visit one of the art classrooms.
It reminded me of the high school music class in the Fame movie.
I had no idea Glenfield is the regional art magnet school.
I’m predicting big things.
26. 26
Just prior to this show,
I had a four-month long show at the Verona Public Library.
At the start of that show I reached out to the directors of the art programs at all the schools in Verona and Montclair inviting them to the show and telling them that I am a long-time local resident and a professional artist with extensive history exhibiting in galleries in NYC and that I would be glad to visit their school and talk to their students if interested.
Amy Cohen of Glenfield Middle School fame expressed interest.
