Day Fourteen

So the day of the No Kings rally in Montclair had finally arrived.

I had been looking forward to this day, having attended the Hands Off rally that Corry Booker had spoken at, shortly after his marathon speech.

(See: 4. 9. 25 in my This Just In project)

It had been announced that Mikie Sherrill would make an appearance at this rally.

They had been forecasting the high probability of rain, but it was a done deal that I would be going.

What’s more, I’d be taking my bike, as that was my plan.

I just figured that parking would be impossible, and I’m more comfortable on my bike.

It was only 3 or 4 miles away, and it was mostly all down hill going.

I arrived at 10 o’clock, which was the announced start of the rally.

A light rain had begun to fall.

I went from tree to tree, photographing from beneath.

The rain turned into a rather substantial, constant downpour.

I moved back deeper into the tree line.

My wooden Resist! signs made for a fairly good umbrella, and I had a plastic bag and backpack for my camera, but it was a rather uncomfortable affair.

The music and speakers played on, and to the crowd’s credit, it didn’t look like very many people had left.

Once the rain stopped, I cruised the perimeter taking photos.

I couldn’t really go deeper into the crowd as I had connected two wooden signs together ala sandwich board presentation with rope, and their swinging around was dangerous.

Mikie gave a short speech that I wasn’t really aware of, as I was out on the edge.

The sound wasn’t great, and my hearing is worse.

I was still pretty wet, and I wasn’t looking forward to a 3 or 4 mile bike ride up hill in the rain, so I thought I better get out while the getting was good.

I made it home with no problem.

A light rain had begun to fall.

These days I feel like we are all walking big time history.

I was proud to have attended the rally.

Honored to stand among that company.

We are all in this together.
