Pastels

This is the first series of things I have completed since 9/11, and I think a lot of that is in this work.

Pastels are like looking at the paintings in fast forward. Like the paintings, they are built up in layers, but since there is no drying time, the process is much faster. They are like watching the home movies of the family vacation, whereas the paintings record every sight, every conversation that occurred over the course of the same.

There are thirteen pastels in this series, eleven of which are pictured here. The first, "I Care", was given in trade to my photographer for his services. The other twelve will be in a show I will have at Kerygma Gallery in Ridgewood, New Jersey in January of 2002.

All of these are pastel with compressed charcoal on 90lb hot press paper. The size of the paper is 18" x 24". The approximate size of the images is 13" x 19".
