Box

For as long as I've been doing drawings and pastels in New York, I've drawn a black border around the image. I'd then title, sign and date the piece in white along the bottom.

In the middle of this year (2002) I was working on a pastel entitled Solace, and when I went to draw the black border, something told me not to.

So instead, I drew a pencil line border, leaving the inside clear, and then did the writing in pencil too. I think that this means that I am now clear, and out of the box.

I know who I am now.

I'm in complete control of my destiny.

The earlier pastels in this link show the black border - up until Solace. After that, all my pastels are clear.

I think it is interesting that my first clear piece is Solace, as I've always thought that my greatest service will be to supply comfort and understanding.
